V0.75 Jan. 22/1997
------------------
- Reworked the Preferences again. Now there are alot of Prefs and its
easier to get around. Also added the User ID and Password for users
who have to login. This features is now working yet as I'm not too
on how to implement this. Waiting for the docs.
Also the external editor/reader is not yet working. Will be in the
next release.
Also note that some features in the preferences do not work yet
althought you can set them.
- Added Filters. If you are a Air Mail supporter this is no surprise
since its indentical to Air Mail's filters except a small change.
The next release will have filter on the number of lines. The Others
filter is not working and probably will be remove or replaced with the
Line filter.
- Added Folders. You can now create unlimited number of folders to store
articles. Folders are stored in the Incoming directory. When you
setup a filter you can tell World News to store the article in the
specified folder. You can also Save or File selected articles to
any folder. The only place you can do this right now is then Article
header window.
If you intend to store filtered articles its wise to create the folder
first before configuring the filters.
In the Article header window you can select one or more articles
by drag select or shift select selected articles and then click
the File button and then select the Folder to file to.
Offline Reading?
------------------
Yes! V0.75 has offline reading. This is the first step towards a complete
offline reader. When you file or filter articles into the folder you can
read them later on.
To read articles from the Folder select the Folder menu item and select
a folder to open. The article header window will be opened. This is
the same as retriving article headers online. The Next and Prev button
doesn't work yet. World News will load all the articles in the folder.
The future version will retrive only upto the max. articles specified
in the prefs.
When you reply or post while offline World News will queued them in the
outgoing directory and when you are online World News will post them
automatically. For this to work you will need to check the flag in the
Options pref to check for queued articles on startup.
V0.7 Jan 18/1997
----------------
- Please reconfigure your preferences. If you don't then unexpected
results will happen. Don't say I didn't warn you.
- Reworked the Preferences an added two news tabs:
Colors - This tab lets you select the color for read and unread
articles. Note that some colors are not available because
they don't seem to work in the listview. Colors that works
are: White, Black, Blue and Gray.
Article Head and Article Body not yet working.
Articles - You can now tell World News to retrieve only new articles.
New articles are the ones you haven't read yet. If you
haven't setup the colors for read/unread then you won't
be able to tell which articles are read/unread. Set up
your colors now.
- Also added is the ablility to save the starting article
for the last retrieved page. When you close the news group
and come back to it later, World News will start retriving
article headers from the last saved position.
- The date and time for getting NEW news groups is now saved in the prefs.
It will always default to the last retrived date and time.
- Maximum number of articles to retrieve at a time is now set to 5000
instead of 100 in v.06
- The stupid message about not finding the terminated chars is now gone.
It was just a warning message.
Things you should know
----------------------
1. If for any reasons World News is stuck on retriving an article or any
data. The only way to quit is set TCP/IP offline and then reconnect
again. The cause could be that the socket has been lost or that
its having problem communicating with the server.
2. If you find World News to be slow then there isn't much I can do but
I thought you should know what World News is doing.
- Each window listing article headers has its own socket connection.
And it takes a few seconds to connect when you open the group for
article headings.
- It uses RAM alot since its getting alot of headers and scanning for
keywords such as Subject, Date etc... It doesn chew up ram but it
uses for speed.
- Due to MUI you will find that it is very slow when you open alot
of windows. Especailly with Miami. Try running your apps in
lower screen depths.
World News 0.7 has never been crashed yet so far. Here is my configuration.
A2000 GVP Combo II 030 2 Fast 1 Chip 52 HD WB 2.1/Soft WB 3.1
Let me know if you experience any problems.
V0.6 Jan 15/1997
----------------
- Reworked the groups. If you are upgrading to 0.6 then you will need to
get the entire news group again.
- If you get a message about terminating chars not found then please
close all the article and group windows then reopen the group. I'll
try to find what the heck is causing this bug.
- fixed some minor bugs.
V0.4 Jan 5/1997
---------------
- Renamed the 'Use Air Mail as Mailer:' in the prefs to 'Use Air Mail Prefs'
If this is checked then World News will use the Air Mail prefs.
This means World News will use Air Mail's:
- Address Book
- Tags
- Signature
- Added Tags. The same as Air Mail
- Added Address. The same as Air Mail
- Recoded most of the routines for retrieving hopefully this will not
hang anymore or stop retriveing prematurely.
- Get NEW news group works now. This will ask you for the date and time
you want to start checking of new groups added.
- Export function now works while you are reading the article. The Export
function exports the current article to Air Mail's Inbox. If you don't
have Air Mail installed then this will not work. You can then use Air Mail
to read and reply to the article. Cool!
- Make it alot faster when free resources.
V0.3 Dec 31/1996
----------------
- Rearrange the prefs
- When retrieving an article that contains uuencoded or MIME files, WNews
when automatically decode and execute the file. You will need to check
the Execute program after retrieve in the pref.
- Fixed the problem with garbage news group names. You will need to reload
the entire news group. Sorry!!
- Added the queue articles. Articles that are queued in the posting directory
will get posted during startup if you check the 'Check Queued Article'
in the prefs.
V0.2 Dec. 28/1996
-----------------
- Change the News Group so that you can add any news group to the group.
V0.1 only allows you to select news group that belongs to the same
alphabet.
- Posting is now working. Right now posting can only be access when you
are viewing article headers.
- Replying is also working. You will need to read the article in the
news header window then select Reply in the window.
- File attachment right now is not auto encoded using UU or MIME and will
send straight ASCII
